The new “Spider-man: Homecoming” trailer is here. As is the case with the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it looks pretty good. This new spider-man is state-of-the-art and even comes with his own custom Iron Man shadow. And if you blink, you’ll miss it. But the Batman archetype is in there. I know that’s DC, but it is there if you want to see it – I want to see it. Let’s plant that seed now.
My main concern with MCU of late is that the movies have stopped evolving in terms of plot. Nothing of consequence has happened in recent movies, see “Captain America: Civil War” and “Doctor Strange”. These movies, though well-made and still good movies overall to watch, seem more like a bunch of gods and dudes with origin stories playing weekend superheroes. That’s why I was so high on “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story”. You weren’t quite sure until it was so. That sense of desperation, loss and perseverance was there.
It is established fairly early on in this Trailer and previous trailers that this Spider-man is a Marvel joint – not Sony – and portends to be an upgrade over the latter. Also, Peter Parker this time around seems to be more interested in being Spider-man. So I am optimistic about ‘Spider-man: Homecoming’. Spidey is a big deal for MCU.
