Today on the MID-SHIFT our featured spotlight preview is “Neighbors” opening Friday, May 9th. We’ll also catch you up on the Met Gala celebrity news. Let’s get things started with this past weekend Box Office in Review.
No surprise, but the Amazing Spider-Man 2 takes the lead with a whopping 92.6 million. Now that may seem like a large number to most, but considering its budget was over 200 million, it’s got a ways to go, but I have no doubt it will make that back and some. In second is last week’s winner, The Other Woman, a comedy about female friendship. Grabbing the bronze is Heaven is for real, the latest in Hollywood’s Christian revival. Rounding out the top five is marvel once again, with captain America: the winter soldier, and Rio 2, the family sequel about rare blue macaws.
That’s all for the Box Office, on deck is Hollywood news. But for now, I’d like a spotlight preview of an upcoming film.
That’s right its spotlight previews, and this week we’re looking at Neighbors. Brought to you by the team behind, “This is the End” with the tagline family vs. frat, the neighbor pits the funny vs. the shirtless. Seth Rogen, Zac Efron, and Rose Byrne star in a comedy where the happy American family’s idyllic suburban life is uprooted by the new neighbors, a college fraternity. A funny premise with plenty of opportunities for laughs and intense conflict, “Neighbors” appears to be a promising film. Although I took little to no enjoyment from the time of my life wasted watching “This is the End,” I’m holding fast to the idea that Rogen and crew have done better. Directed by Nicholas Stoller whose credits include “Forgetting Sarah Marshall,” “Get him to the Greek,” and “The Muppets” I’d wager the Neighbors may truly entertain.
Celebrity focus this week is, The Met Gala a yearly event held in New York is a fundraising gala to support the Metropolitan museum of art’s costume institute. Anna Wintour, the editor-in-chief of Vogue and the believed basis behind Meryl Streep’s character in the “Devil Wears Prada,” organizes the event and as such it is one of the more fashionable events of the season. Everyone has a best and worst list, but for me on the men’s side the best was Andrew Garfield, David Beckham, and Frank Ocean. Although, it is quite difficult to mess up men’s formal wear unless you’re Johnny Depp who looked like Batman’s adversary Penguin. For the ladies, the good was Charlize Theron, Michelle Williams, and Beyonce and the bad, Nicole Richie, Kristen Stewart, and Brie Larson. Last up on the MID-SHIFT films opening this week aside from Neighbors. The other two wide releases are Moms Night Out starring “Grey’s Anatomy’s” Sarah Drew and the animated, Legends of Oz: Dorothy’s Return” staring “Glee’s” Lea Michele. Out this weekend with a limited release, “Chef”, “Devil’s Knot,” “Fed Up,” “The Double,” “Palo Alto,” “The Wedding Video,” and “God’s Pocket.”
